Martha's Vineyard Community Television
Facilities
Located at 1R Sanderson Avenue, on the campus of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, in Oak Bluffs, MVTV is a 1000 square-foot building that is stocked with the very latest in video production technology. From a cutting-edge TV studio, to field production equipment, to non-linear editing facilities, MVTV has everything you’ll need to produce your very own television programs!
Every day, MVTV lends out a wide array of video equipment for free to station members—Islanders, like you, that are producing their very own television programs. If you’re new to video production, fear not: MVTV also offers complete technical training and production advice free of charge.
Here are some snapshots of our station:
Master Control
Often referred to as the “brain” of the MVTV, this small area is where staff members prepare incoming programs for cablecast on one of the stations’ three cable channels. All shows submitted for cablecast are converted to MPEG-2 and are stored on the station’s unique Tera One server, a large video storage device that manages all of the station’s media. Programming schedules are then created daily by station staffers, using Tightrope Media software.
Television Studio
MVTV’s custom-made television studio features three, remote-controlled Sony PD-150 camcorders, a variety of microphones and lighting equipment, and a control room equipped with live or live-to-tape video switching equipment, an audio mixer, and several television monitors to preview shots and camera positions.

In these photographs, students from the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Television class learn the ropes of the studio.

Equipment highlights include Sony HC-85, TRV-25 and TRV-38 camcorders, BeachTek DXA-4S Dual XLR Adapters, Sony UTX-B1 Wireless Lavaliere Microphones, and Shriber Acoustic SA-568 Shotgun Condenser Microphones. Throw in a complete collection of camera batteries, shock mounts, XLR cables, tripods and headphones, and you’ll be shooting video like a pro faster than you can say “action”!

Editing can be a fun and interesting experience that can transform reels of raw footage into polished programs. All editing at MVTV is done via computer using of a variety of non-linear editing programs. Currently, our software collection includes Adobe Premiere Pro, Vegas Video, Final Cut Pro and iMovie.
If you’re new to non-linear editing, you can learn all about the process in one of MVTV’s editing classes. Additionally, if your busy schedule is keeping you from coming in to edit, you can borrow one of MVTV’s three laptop computers for home editing use.
